They got my text but don't have the app

The link in your text works for them too: it opens a page with the store buttons and their 6-character code.

1. They tap the link in your text and get Handle from the App Store or Google Play.
2. On Android, Handle usually opens on their name by itself. On iPhone, they open Handle, tap Join my crew, then Paste: the page already copied their code.
3. They tap Join. There's no password: the phone is their key.

A link works once and lasts a week. Sending it again always sends one that works: if theirs expired, they get a new link and the old one stops. If it says it was used, someone already joined with it: check the names in Settings. Settings also says when they opened it: Opened.
